Abstract
This article gives an overview of the definition and intended scope, the goals, inclusion criteria, presentation and current state of the National Bibliography of Scotland. It explores its relationship to the English Short Title Catalogue, of which it forms a sub-set, and explains the different ways in which the National Bibliography of Scotland goes beyond the English Short Title Catalogue. The article discusses existing datasets that meet the inclusion criteria of the National Bibliography of Scotland as well as the gaps that still need to be filled. Some datasets have already been added while others are either only available in print or in an electronic format that cannot be converted in an automated way into catalogue records for extraction into the National Bibliography of Scotland. For some parts, no ready datasets exist in any format. The article therefore characterises the National Bibliography of Scotland as work in progress.
