Abstract
The purpose of this internship was to work with the medieval collection at the National Library of Scotland (NLS), evaluate the engagement policies relating to this collection and look at how the NLS further engages with local communities, archives and the central belt in Scotland. The medieval collection has been underutilised in recent years, typically omitted from engagement activities for both the NLS staff and wider public. Where it has been used, the same medieval manuscripts have been taken out to be viewed or displayed, resulting in a disbalanced use of the medieval collection (especially those manuscripts which are deemed Class 1 items).
