Abstract
The National Library of Scotland is one of six United Kingdom and Ireland legal deposit libraries that has the legal entitlement to claim all UK publications. In December 2024 the National Library reasserted that electronic UK publications form an integral part of its collections and need to be preserved and made accessible in line with its policies. The primary manager of this content is the British Library. This paper provides a basis for the National Library and all legal deposit libraries to play a more active role in the governance and management of electronic UK publications to ensure that they are available to the public now and in the future. It sets out requirements for an electronic legal deposit service that are an adaptation of the National Library's digital preservation policy, data integrity policy, and key performance indicators used to manage its own digital preservation service.
